Event website Event programme Cocoa is a commodity that is linked to significant environmental and social sustainability challenges that could ultimately lead to disruption of global supply. These issues cannot be solved by any one company or other stakeholder in the cocoa value chain alone. The CHOCOTHON initiative in Ghana aims to empower and connect cocoa farmers and create new opportunities for them and other value chain stakeholders in cocoa production and to reduce supply disruption risks. This initiative is based on a partnership between the Trade for Sustainable Development (T4SD) project of the International Trade Centre (ITC) and the Google Food Lab (GFL) and its supporters Googlers Give Global Leadership Program, Business School Lausanne (BSL ), Future Food Institute, Crowdfooding platform, Nestlé and Barry Callebaut. The event will take place on the 18th to the 22nd of January 2017 in Accra, Ghana and it is combining a methodology of "sharing knowledge" among the cocoa community (private, public sector and cocoa farmers) though a three days conference (18th-20th) and "connecting stakeholders" by organising two days of a hackathon (21st-22nd) in which computer programmers and others involved in software development, including graphic designers, interface designers and project managers collaborate intensively on software innovation projects. CHOCOTHON joins together the words ‘chocolate’ and ‘hackathon'. It is an initiative that promotes a shared-value platform for sustainable cocoa supply chains. An additional event, a Training of Trainers (ToT), will take place in Kumasi, from the 23rd to the 25th of January aiming at training - for free- cocoa producers representatives or producers’ coaches in the use of market analysis and sustainability related tools. The objective is that the producers receive targeted technical assistance on the implementation of good production practices. WHO SHOULD ATTEND THIS EVENT? If you are working in the cocoa sector and are based in Accra, Ghana, we would like to invite you to the information sharing part of the event (18-20 January). If you are an IT expert based in Accra, Ghana and are interested in competing to develop an application to help the cocoa sector become more sustainable, we invite you to the information sharing part of the event (18-20 January) and the hackathon (21-22 January).
